F5 BIG-IP APM has grown into a Zero Trust access platform: an identity-aware proxy that checks user, device and context on every request, federates with Microsoft Entra ID, Okta and Ping, and still integrates with the Kerberos, RADIUS and legacy applications you cannot replace.

Federation is how modern identity works: your identity provider asserts who the user is, and every application trusts that assertion instead of holding its own passwords. APM speaks all three standards in both directions, which is what makes it the bridge between cloud identity and on-premise applications.
Designs we deliver
- APM as SAML service provider – protecting applications with Microsoft Entra ID, Okta, Ping or ADFS as the identity provider, including Conditional Access signals passed through to the access policy.
- APM as SAML identity provider – single sign-on into SaaS applications such as Microsoft 365, Salesforce, ServiceNow and Workday for users authenticated on-premise.
- OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect – APM as client, authorization server or resource server, validating JWT access tokens in front of APIs and microservices.
- Legacy bridging – federated login on the front, Kerberos constrained delegation or header-based SSO on the back, so applications that only understand Active Directory still get modern authentication.
